I've always loved that song, and that movie. This story made me cry, it really did. I think it says something about McGee's place in their makeshift family that he's the one who started the stargazing ritual, and now he's the only one of the four who can do anything, however indirectly, to bring them back together again. I love the symmetry, too - how first the team used this to help them feel that they were bringing Gibbs back home to them, and now they use it as a prayer that Gibbs will bring them home to him.

Oh my god, that song. I LOVE that movie and that song. I remember tearing up everytime it came on the radio. I saw An American Tail in the theaters, iand it's stll one of my favorite movies. Could you have picked a more heartbreaking song for them??? Absolutely beautiful, and I in fact did tear up with this. And now I wish I hadn't loaned this to my brother for my niece :( *sigh*
Author's Response: Awww... It's funny, this started with me thinking about doing something while the team was broken up, and then I remembered this song. The idea and the song simmered for about two weeks because I was busy with other stuff and then I sat down Tuesday and drafted this. And it's basically the same from first draft to final - just some minor tweaks. And I said I'd never write a song fic...
