It’s time for our favorite NCIS characters to make their New Year’s resolutions for 2012!

But it had better be a short list, because this is a drabble challenge! That means the text of the story must be EXACTLY 100 words.


The particulars:

Content: Your story must consist of one NCIS character’s New Year’s resolutions for the coming year, 2012. The resolution (one or more) must be explicitly declared to be a New Year’s resolution: something the character vows to do in the coming year. It can be expressed in conversation, or in a character’s internal thoughts . . . it can even be a list or journal entry. That choice is yours.

Characters: Because the resolutions are for the year 2012, you are restricted to NCIS characters who are currently among the living, and whom we may reasonably expect to welcome the New Year. All living NCIS characters are eligible, even if we haven’t seen the character onscreen in several years.

Length:100 words exactly. Titles are not included in the word count. Please do your own word count—the counter on the story board is often wrong, for reasons known only to its inscrutable self.

Rating: FR-15 or below. Gen, het, or slash/femmeslash, just in case a reference to a romantic relationship works its way into your character’s resolutions.

Multiple Entries: Up to three entries per writer will be accepted, but each story must focus on a different NCIS character.

You may submit your story to another challenge if that’s okay with the other challenge-issuer . . . but because of the low word count, there probably won’t be too many possibilities for that.

I would like to have two categories of winners, one for the core cast of Season 9 (Gibbs, Tony, Tim, Ziva, Ducky, Abby, Vance) and one for all other living NCIS characters (including Jimmy, Fornell, Jackson Gibbs, Hollis Mann, Abigail Borin, Sarah McGee, Stan Burley, and so forth) . . . but this will only happen if I have at least 10 entries eligible in each category.

Also, should there be enough core cast entries to have 10 entries for a single character plus at least 10 other entries for other core characters (that would require at least 20 entries for the core cast members), I will name a winner for that character, as well as a winner for the remaining core cast entries. I know that’s not terribly likely to happen, but drabbles are short, and I have learned never to underestimate the NFA Timmunity. So I thought I’d mention it now, and I have officially requested the extra karma . . . just in case.

Because of the relationship of the challenge to that date, there will be no extensions.
